Additional Washington Nationals Info

The Washington Nationals were originally established in 1969 as the Montreal Expos. After a decade-long losing streak, the Expos posted their first winning season in 1979. Two years later, the Expos advanced to their first postseason appearance behind star catcher Gary Carter and outfielders Andre Dawson and Tim Raines.

For the remainder of the 1980s, however, Montreal fielded average teams. Their fortunes shifted briefly in the early 1990s when the Expos amassed a roster filled with young talent—such as outfielders Moises Alou, Marquis Grissom, and Larry Walker, as well as pitcher Pedro Martínez—that led to a rapid ascent toward the top of the divisional standings. Montreal posted a league-best record in 1994 only to have the remainder of the season canceled over a labor dispute. By the time play resumed in 1995, Montreal had lost much of its young talent, and the Expos ended the year at the bottom of the divisional standings. The Expos then began a prolonged period of subpar play that coincided with a decrease in home-game attendance.

In 2005 the Expos moved to Washington, DC, and became known as the Nationals. Washington Nationals Ticket Holders endured watching truly sub-par play in those initial years. However, finishing with losing records gave the Nationals the distinct advantage of being able to draft 2 of the most-prized prospects in decades: pitcher Stephen Strasburg and outfielder Bryce Harper. These young superstars helped the Nationals win their first division title in 2012. However, they were unable to move past the first-round of play-offs—a pattern that Washington Nationals Ticket Holders would see repeat itself for the next several seasons.
